backfire or blast…

Backfire…….

Alright here is the backfire to doing something at thespur of the moment.  My best friend and his family (Shawn, Jennifer & Haleigh Wiebers) came up to Edmond this weekend to hang out with us.  We decided on Friday to hit the zoo!  Awesome spur of the moment idea.  Should be empty (Friday morning at 10, no one there because of school, art festival at downtown will attract a ton of people away from the zoo)  Ahh the perfect plan!  Oops….Someone forgot to tell the Edge’s and the Wieber’s that Friday was the State’s School Day at the zoo.  We pulled up and saw at least 30-40 school buses loaded with kids!  That’s not including all the family members that came in there own cars to help out!  It was a sea of commotion and yelling.   Beautiful.  the advantage we had is that there was only 7 of us so we could maneuver through groups of 20+.  I told Shawn “Hug your stroller to the back of the wagon and I’ll get us through”  We just flew through crowds and luckily didn’t have to many casualties.  The first 30 minutes was pure hecktickness (like that word? Spell check went crazy when I typed that one in)  How many times have you had a fun spur of the moment time and it straight up backfired?

Blast…….

We had such a great time!  The girls just loved riding in the wagon and pointing at all the animals.  Even though Brooklyn almost got attacked by a Ostich I think I helped her not have a bird complex. (quite scary for her…just ask her what happened).  All in all this ended up being the most fun I ever had at the Zoo!  It was a comfortable 68-72 degrees all day!  Nice.  I remember going and the coolest spot was like the indoor exhibit and it was still clipping 90 something, man i hated going to the zoo when you get sun burnt before you get to the 2nd exhibit.  If you havent been recently I suggest going!  The new Oklahoma Exhibit blew me away!  It is top notch!  I loved it, definately my favorite.  Whats you favorite thing about the zoo or what is you favorite memory of it?

Old Japanese man

Watch out everybody….I am making a purchase that I have been wanting to make for quite some time but never took the plunge and did.  The Santoku knife.  I have been looking but never saw one that really satisfied me.  Sheena and I bought some “forever sharp” knives and they are pretty amazing (sorry for doubting you babe) and I am rather impressed with them but none of them have what a Santoku knife has.  If you remember from a couple posts ago I went to my Uncles house for a birthday party, while I was there I tend to always end up in the kitchen helping out.  Well, I was about to do some cutting on an onion and I asked for a knife….Tony’s wife, Kendre, began to hand me a knife then Tony immediately got up and walked over to the kitchen and said “Here use my knife”.

What he laid in front of me was a knife that looked like it was hand beat into shape and had seen some wear and tear, to be quite honest it looked like it couldn’t even cut water.  But i still grabbed it and began cutting the onion…..What happened next was quite bazaar, it seemed as if time slowed down and at each cut of the onion the knife and I began to bond.  We were like 2 people who seemed as if they have known each other forever but only met for the first time.  What I had in my hand acted as an extension to my arm, poetry in motion, a beautiful thing, the action was fluid and beyond smooth.  The only thing was that it was not my knife…it was Tony’s.  So what do I do?  I buy that knifes brother!  So summon the ancient Blacksmith’s of Tosa on Shikoku Island and create one for me!  The old Japanese man who hand beat the knife with his own hand had made something that was truly sent by God himself and he is now making one for me…. I think somewhere in ”Genesis 1: something” it speaks of the Santoku knife and how God spoke it into existence and it was good.  Maybe right after he made man I think.  (don’t quote me though)

So hopefully it should be here soon….. I just need to pull out the baby book and start finding a name for our new addition to the family…..any suggestions on names?  may go with Saxon…Check out the meaning here.

Sleeping Crazy…

Wigglers, Jimmy Leg, Sleep walking, Talking in your sleep, roller, belly sleeper, side sleeper, pillow over the face sleeper, not sleeping, early riser, night owl, cover stealer……these are all kinds of ways that adults sleep.  Now personally I am a “Talking in your sleep-roller-cover stealer-pillow over the face sleeper”  You?  Now kids between birth and 5 years old have an advanced way of sleeping….they add one more skill we can not master “sleeping sideways with someone else in the bed with you”

Yeah I checked on her a couple times throughout the night and she never fell….but hey maybe she got some mad balance skills we may have not tapped into yet.  Man I wish I had a video camera to see how she got in that position.

Good Stuff….

It’s been a while…

It’s been awhile for 3 things….#1 Shot a .45 Pistol, #2 blogged & #3 Been to pops!

1.  Well this weekend I went to my nephew’s 1st b-day party and my uncles 40th b-day party at there house in Luther, Oklahoma…..The sticks…And while we were out there I got to shoot my uncle’s Springfield XD-45.  Man after 13 rounds I was hungry for more….unlike my wife.  She freaked out when we were holding it in the house.  It was 100% unloaded and safe.  Still she was scared of it.  So what did I do?  I said “Hey babe, Come touch this gun or i’ll give it to Bailee to play with!”  She didn’t move so Bailee extended her arms and as I attempted to hand it to Bailee, Sheena walked over and touched it.  I am so proud of her.  (also as a side note….She played a heck of a game of touch football!  atta girl!)

2.  Sorry I haven’t blogged in awhile….Love me.  Thanks for the faithfulness!

3.  Ahhh POPS…Check it out.  It only a short drive away and it is well worth it!  Tons of root beers, Sasparilla, Creme Sodas, Brich Beer, and a ton of different kinds of sodas!  Literally Check the site out and let me know what ya think!  My wifes favorite is the Americana Black Cherry while the ones I am currently trying are Empire Root Beer, Boylan Creme Soda & my uncle’s current favorite Journey John Barleycorn Root Beer.  We’ll see whats to come of those!  Whats your favorite?

The weekend that stunk…

What a weekend in the House Full of Ladies….

Brooklyn for the first time got to spend the night with her Grammy and Papa without Sheena and I!  It was pretty sad..(Sheena slept with one of BEE’s babies, Just Pitiful)…Brooklyn was so excited to go over there and have them all to herself!  The next morning they took her to their church and she had a blast…When she goes to Mending Hearts Church she gets tons of attention and she gets to run around the whole church with her little buddies.  Good times.  Hopefully it’ll be a while longer till she does another sleepover at there house.  I kinda like having that lump come in our bed every once and a while.

Bailee had a pretty interesting weekend herself.  We had some great friends of ours come up Friday night and hang out with us.  They have a son who is 2 and when Brooklyn and Aiden get together they are like the best of friends and when they play it seems like they just pick up where they left off!  Hilarious.  Well Bailee tries to play with them but they are super huge compared to her…..Its that effect that you’ll see when Brooklyn and Aiden run through the room and then run back out…..15 seconds later Bailee will come in grinning ear to ear laughing and then do an about face and continue following.  Pretty dang cute if you ask me.  Well one particular moment we had a three way crash betwixed them all.  It looked roughly like a Nascar wreck with all the cars flipping in the air but without the fire and instead of cars it was more like 3 kids running into each other simultaneously.  Well immediately Brooklyn and Aiden get up and go play, Bailee on the other hand stayed down and cried super loud.  Then Sheena caught vision of a little blood…..Uh-oh…..She got a cut under her eye and immediately was bleeding a ton of blood (kinda like tears of blood…pretty sad).  Well I grabbed the video camera for some reason and then put it down just as fast as Sheena was yelling at me….bad call i guess.  She’s all good and healed up pretty fast but it is never cool to see one of your kids bleeding.

An eventful weekend to say the least.  Looking forward to this week…supposed to be nice and warm all week.  Sweet Spring is here!

ahhh Augusta Part 2

Well I didn’t fair to well….

Tiger got 2nd place

Geoff was tied for 39th

Vijay was tied for 14th

And my Dark Horse Tim Clark was real dark….never made the cut.  Oh well.

It was fun and man the Master’s is just an amazing Golf Course.  It is sickening to hear of how detailed it is and how PERFECT it is.  Each and every detail is covered, never looked over.  Maybe Sheena will go with me one of these years.  Doubt it but it would be a cool cruise. Anywho…  At the Master’s the Golfers are not the main attraction…The course is.   I cant wait till next year!  Hopefully my picks will fair better next time.

Hello Sun Butter….

Sorry I haven’t blogged in a while…Well it seems like forever!

We have introduced a new family member in our house….SunButter.  It is a peanut free based peanut butter.  It is Sunflower Butter!  Not to shabby if I do say myself….It ain’t no JIF!  As you may know or not know Bailee has a Peanut Allergy and our house has to be Peanut free so we have tossed out our Peanut butter and all products that have it as well.  (Sheena has officially thrown on the sack cloth and is in deep mourning because of this).

Today we went to the Doctor’s office and we had our meeting about the Peanut Allergy and what we need to do to help her out.  Bailee scored a 1 out of 5 (which is the least severe) and the Doctor said if we completely neglect her of all Tree Nuts and Peanuts there is a chance she will be able to outgrow it.  Still we have to have an Epi-Pen in case a severe reaction occurs.  So be praying that she grows out of this in the next 4-5 years or so!

FYI…looking outside we straight up have ponds in our front lawn!
